Why Choose Homeopathy to Treat Depression?

Safe and Natural
Homeopathic medicine is one of the safest forms of medicine available. It is natural, nontoxic, and not addictive. It does not cause side effects in the same way as conventional pharmaceutical drugs, which are chemical substances with direct physiological effects. Homeopathic medicines are energy medicines, which have indirect physiological effects through stimulation of the immune system and other restorative and protective body mechanisms. They are highly diluted chemically, yet quite potent therapeutically. As previously explained, homeopathic medicines are made by serial dilution, and even though the source substance may cause symptoms, the extremely dilute medicine will not usually cause any problem unless it is given far too frequently to a very sensitive person.

The most common reaction to a homeopathic medicine, which occurs in up to 50 percent of patients, is called an aggravation. This is a temporary worsening of already existing symptoms and usually lasts several days. A return of symptoms the patient had previously can also occur, most commonly lasting four to five days. Aggravations and a return of old symptoms usually are an indication that the correct medicine has been given and will be followed by an amelioration of symptoms.

A Real Deal

Compared to conventional treatment, homeopathic treatment is inexpensive. In the United States, homeopathic treatment is administered on an outpatient basis. At present there are no homeopathic psychiatric hospitals in the United States. A few conventional psychiatrists have switched to homeopathic medicine, but most are not permitted to practice homeopathy in a hospital setting. Although a good homeopath may charge as much as some psychiatrists do, patient visits are usually less frequent and the medicine is very inexpensive. A single dose of homeopathic medicine costs between three and ten dollars and may last for weeks or months. In contrast, the average cost of Prozac is eighty-seven dollars per month. Some health insurance covers homeopathic treatment, depending on the license of the practitioner.
